Thank you for giving us the opportunity to coach and teach your children! Our goal is to create a fun and safe environment where kids can truly find the joy in beach volleyball, make new friends and learn some life-long skills. We’ve put together a one-pager listing out information for new players (and returning ones) with answers to our most frequently asked questions. Parking: ​The Lake Nona Town Center parking garage is free of charge. Park there and use the crosswalks to cross Tavistock Lakes Blvd to Boxi Park.

Entrance: ​To enter Boxi Park, enter on the left side of the Park coming from the parking garage, through the Emergency Gate.

Attire:​ Players should wear athletic shorts and a light-weight shirt or tank top, ideally not 100% cotton as it tends to get heavy as players sweat. Please also send your kiddos with water, sunscreen, a towel, and flip flops.

Academy Communication:​ To streamline communication and provide a place where parents and players can connect (arrange carpools, partner up and compete in tournaments, etc.) we've created WhatsApp groups for each of the weekly practices (10+ Beginners, 12+ Experienced and 4-18 Comp). It will also be a space where practice cancellations will be communicated and other information shared. A link to join our PDBVA WhatsApp groups has been sent to you in the initial class pass welcome email. If you do not wish to join our WhatsApp group Mark will communicate weather cancellations and other updates with individual parents/players via text - just please let us know so we may ensure we know who to contact directly.

How to set up Zen Planner (our class pass / booking software) onto your smart phone (this does not apply to drop-in players):

1. After signing up / purchasing your first package, Zen Planner will send you an e-mail inviting you to download the mobile phone app. Click either the App Store (iPhones) or Google Play (Androids) icon to download the Zen Planner Member App.2. Select download. 3. Log-in using the username and password provided to you in the automated e-mail.4. Create new password. And you’re in!

Signing up for future practices using the Zen Planner mobile app:

1. Sign into the Zen Planner mobile app on your device and select the calendar icon on the top left. 2. A large calendar will appear. Click the date you’d like to reserve.3. Press the STAR next to the practice your child would like to attend. 4. The STAR will now be filled and your reservations tab will be updated with the addition. NOTE: We ask that you book your child’s practice in advance so we may plan on staffing the appropriate number of coaches. If you need to cancel scroll down to see step-by-step instructions on how to cancel a booked practice. Please cancel 3 hours before the practice start time to ensure you will not be penalized a practice!

4. Your Reservations tab will be updated with the number of future practices.

NOTE: Please cancel 3 hours before the practice start time to ensure you will not be penalized a practice!

How to Check How Many Practices My Child has Left on their Current Class Pass Package:

1. Sign into the Zen Planner mobile app on your device and select the icon with your child’s initials on the top left. 2. Select View Profile in the menu that appears. 3. Your class pass memberships along with how many classes are left (in this case 2 of the 4 practices have been used) in your class pass + the expiration date of the pass appears. NOTE: Zen Planner accounts for both practices that your child has attended and ones that have been reserved for the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are parents allowed to hang out and watch during practices?​ Yes, there are plenty of chairs and seating areas at Boxi Park. There​ are also restaurants and coffee shops across the street where you may wait during the practice. If you choose to stay and watch, we ask that you please respect our rule, that the SAND is a sacred place for coaches and players only. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to us via email or phone.

Is water provided during practices?​ No, please have the kids bring their own water.

What happens if weather affects the practice and it is cancelled? ​We will monitor the weather daily and call practices up to 1 hour prior to start. Practices will still occur if it’s a drizzle / raining but they will be cancelled if there is thunder and lightning - safety is our main priority. If a practice is cancelled due to rain your class pass will not be deducted for that reserved practice. If the practice is 50% completed, you will be charged for the class. For single drop-ins Mark will reach out to reschedule the make-up practice.

I’d like to speak about my child’s game or have specific questions about coaching. Who can I call and speak to? ​Please email us at hey@pdbva.com and we will reach out to you as soon as possible.

I am interested in having my child play in tournaments. Does PDBVA pair up players and travel throughout Florida and participate in tournaments? ​PDBVA does not actively pair players and travel to tournaments. However, we encourage our players to partner with other PDBVA athletes they meet during practices and participate in local and regional tournaments. My child started their beach volleyball training as a beginner and joined the 10+ Y/O Beginner practices. When can they graduate to PDBVA’s Experienced 12+ Y/O practices? ​Coach Phil or Coach Jen will let you know when your child has gained enough experience and their skill level has advanced. At that point, your child can transition to the Experienced practices. These practices are priced the same so your monthly package will cover both. You can also chat with them at any time to gauge and check-in with your child's progress.
